Born in 1746 in Haddam, Connecticut to parents Elisha (1723-1801) & Abigail Cone Knowles (1730-1791). He Enlisted at Haddam, Middlesex Co, Connecticut. He served as Pvt, Length of service 6 mos. and Served as a Private under Capts Johnson, Col Philip Burr Bradley as well as Capts Sizer, Wilcox, Mills, and Patten Private, Pennsylvania Continentals and as Private with Captain Jarius Wilcox's Company in the Regiment of Articifers commanded by Colonel Jeduthan Baldwin. He married Martha Smith (_-1838); children: Ruben b. 1771, Jesse b. 1773, James K. b. 1776, Martha b. 1778, Amos b. 1781, Esther b. 1785, Samuel b. 1787 and William b. 1789. James Enlisted in Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut. He was a resident of Belpre Township, Washington County as early as 1807. Soldier received BLW # 13301- 100 March 10, 1790, He was also pensioned. Applied May 14, 1818 in Washington County, Ohio. He died on Widow was also pensioned. Applied November 26, 1836 in Athens County, Ohio, Ref.# W4258. He married Martha__; children: Reuben. He Died at 84 years of age on June 18, 1830 and Buried at Newbury Community Cemetery, Little Hocking, Washington Co., OH, Cemetery Notes: near Little Hocking, Newbury, Washington Co, OH. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
