Author: Michael B. Gunn
Born in March, 1751, Peter Kiester served as a scout in the Revolutionary War for the cause of American Independence. His application for a pension was rejected because it was held that he did not serve under competent authority. About September 1, 1775, he enlisted in Capt Peter Grove's company at Sunbury, Pennsylvania, but he could not state by what authority, whether Pennsylvania or Confederation of U. S. His pension application cites a long list of Indian engagements up to his discharge in the fall of 1776. He stated that he had a written discharge but lost it coming to Ohio, though this is questionable. He claimed he was 15 years old when he enlisted. He died on February 12, 1847 and is buried at Sunbury Cemetery, Sunbury, German Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. No headstone has been found, and his gravesite is unknown.
Peter was probably born in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He settled in Adams County, Ohio, 9 miles from West Union. He moved in 1811 to the Big Twin Creek section of German Township. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, but all trace of his family has been lost. He had a perilous career in the army, and was often taken prisoner.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
