Samuel Ketcham was born November 13, 1757 at Warwick, Orange County, New York. He served as a soldier in the New York Militia, a Private in the 4th Regiment, Orange County Militia of the Revoluionary War, enlisting on May 5, 1778 in Captain Marvin’s Company, Colonel H.B. Livingston’s Regiment. He married Phoebe Lyon (1761-1840) in 1782; children: Nancy b. 1785, Nathaniel b. 1787, Enos b. 1789, Hannah b. 1792, Elizabeth b. 1794, Robert b. 1798 and Abner b. 1800. He appears to have lived his life in New York but was living with his son Abner in Coshocton County, Ohio, when he died. Samuel Ketcham died September 24, 1845 at West Lafayette, Ohio, aged 88 years, 2 months and 11 days. He was buried at the Baptist Cemetery at West Lafayette, Coshocton County, Ohio. The inscription on his headstone reads: “A Revolutionary Soldier of 1776." References: DAR, Patriot Index Centennial Edition, Part 2, pg. 166. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
