Author: Fred Ray Ryan

Richard Keele was born on 10 June 1757 in Wythe County, Virginia, the son of Arthur Keele and Sarah Monnote. He married Lydia Richmond on 19 July 1777.

Keele enlisted as a private at Henry County, Virginia, in 1776. He served with Captain James Lyon and P. Harston, and Colonel John Sevier at King's Mountain.

Richard Keele died on 8 July 1849 in Bedford County, Tennessee, and was interred at the Keele-Bivins Cemetery. He also has a headstone at the Old City Cemetery at Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee.
