Born on July 4, 1747 in Mont le Vignoble, Lorraine, France to parents Nicholas and Elizabeth Mouginet Mozeney. He served as a soldier in the Expeditionary Forces with New York Militia, Regiment De Saintonge, Companie Baron de Farrette ubder the General Count de Rochambeau, Philip Schuyler’s New York Regiment. John came to America from France with the Marquis de LaFayette in 1777; fought in Battles of Brandywine & Monmouth. He married Aner Hannah Fotte (1764-1857); children: Dennis, Elizabrth, Lewis, Polly, Grandison, Sally, Phoebe, Hiram, John and Andrew. After the War ended he bought land in Newtown, Fairfield, Connecticut where he married. In 1800 he sold his property and moved to West Liberty, VA (now WVA). When the U.S. Government granted Land Grants he moved to Monroe Co., OH. He died on February 3, 1830 in Ohio Twp., Monroe County, OH and buried at Ollum Cemetery, aka Possum Creek, Row 5 – grave 6, Salem Twp., Monroe Co., OH. Inscription: " In Memory Of John Mozeney Who Departed This Life Feb. 3, 1830 In The 83rd Year Of His Life". Revolutionary War Graves Register. Clovis H. Brakebill, compiler. 672pp. SAR. 1993.
