Qualifying Service Description:
  1. 1775, he served as a Private in the company of Captain Nathaniel Gage, commanded by Colonel James Frye, Massachusetts Militia.
  2. 1777, served in the company of Captain Joshua French, commanded by Colonel Edward Wigglesworth, Massachusetts Militia.
  3. 1777, served in the company of Captain Samuel McConnell, commanded by Colonel Thomas Stickney, New Hampshire Militia.
  4. 1778, served in the company of Captain Benjamin Sias, commanded by Colonel Moses Nichols, New Hampshire Militia.

Stephen Morse was born on 28 January 1756/1757. He lived in Bradford, Massachusetts.

He was a Private in Captain Nathaniel Gage’s Company of Minutemen, which marched on the alarm of 19 April 1775 and served for seven days. He was also a Private in Captain Nathaniel Gage’s Company in Colonel James Frye’s Regiment in camp at Cambridge on 17 May 1775.

Stephen was a Private in Captain Samuel McConnell’s Company in Colonel Thomas Stickney’s Regiment in General John Stark’s Brigade of New Hampshire Militia, which joined the Northern Continental Army at Bennington and Stillwater. He joined on 19 July, served two months and eight days, and was discharged on 26 September 1777.

He was a Private in Captain Benjamin Sias’s Company in Colonel Moses Nichols’s Regiment of New Hampshire Militia during the expedition to Rhode Island in August 1778. He joined on 5 August, served 26 days, and was discharged on 30 August. 

Stephen moved to Haverhill, New Hampshire, shortly before he married Sally Kay there about 1780. Their known children are: 

  • Bryan was born on 28 November 1781 and married first to Susannah Stevens, second to Eliza D. (Torr) Repill.
  • Caleb was born on 25 November 1784 and married Polly Fairbanks.
  • John C. was born on 7 April 1787 and married Nancy Wheelock.
  • Thomas was born on 13 January 1789 and married first to Judith Parker, second to Rebecca Greenough, and third to Jane Breckinridge. 
  • Stephen was born on 18 November 1790 and married Sally Forsyth.
  • Robert was born on 30 July 1792 and married Susannah Hayes.
  • Joshua was born on 3 April 1794 and married Ruth White.
  • Isaac was born on 13 December 1795 and died in 1803.
  • James was born on 28 August 1797 and married Louisa P. Page.
  • Aaron was born on 16 September 1799 and married first to Pamelia T. Niles and second to Mrs. Harriett A. Knight.
  • Timothy was born on 27 April 1803 and married Pamelia Haines.
  • Hiram was born on 17 August 1804 and married Mary Elliott.

Stephen settled on Morse Hill on Old Coventry Road in Haverhill, where he worked as a blacksmith. 

The Patriot died on 14 June 1843, aged 88 years, and was buried in Horse Meadow Cemetery in North Haverhill, New Hampshire.
