Author: Eric Henry Troutman

Heinrich Moll was born in February of 1734 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, probably in what is now Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Michael and Rosina Moll who came from Weisenheim, Germany. Michael and Rosina Moll arrived at the port of Philadelphia on 10 September 1731, aboard the ship "Pennsylvania Merchant" on 10 September 1731, two and a half years before their son Heinrich was born. Michael settled in what is now Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Heinrich married Elizabeth Faust (1738-1807), who was born in Bern Township, Lancaster County (now Berks County), Pennsylvania. Elizabeth was the daughter of Philip “Lebs” and Magdalena (Albrecht) Faust. He was the father of eight children:

  1. Magdalena.
  2. Elizabeth.
  3. Margaret.
  4. Michael.
  5. Catharine Elizabeth.
  6. Maria.
  7. Johann Heinrich.
  8. Conrad.

Son Johann Heinrich Moll married his first cousin Maria Elizabeth Faust a granddaughter of Philip “Lebs” and Magdalena Faust. At the time this was not so unusual since you would probably marry someone that lived in the same neighborhood as you or someone who worshipped in the same church.

During the Revolutionary War, Heinrich Moll served as a private in Captain Shable’s Company, Berks County, Pennsylvania Militia. Like so many other Pennsylvania Germans, he put his life and fortune on the line so his descendants would have the freedoms we enjoy in the United States of America today.

Heinrich was a farmer his entire life, his farm being in Windsor Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He died at his homestead in June of 1809. Heinrich and Elizabeth Moll are buried at the St. John’s Gernant’s Church Cemetery, Ontelaunee Township, (near Leesport), Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
