Author: William Charles Schreffler
John Miller son of Christopher Miller, a German immigrant, was born in 1751 in Lebanon Township, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. John served as a Private in the Lancaster County Militia, 4th Battalion, Captain Martin Weaver’s Company, Colonel Robert Elder’s Regiment during the Revolutionary War.

John married Froncia Kerstetter, daughter of Sebastian and Magdalena Deibler Kerstetter circa 1773. Although some sources indicate that John first came to the Upper Paxtang area in 1790 with his brother Daniel , who later founded Millersburg, there is documented evidence of John and Froncia’s presence here as early as July 1775. Therefore it is likely that John and Froncia settled in the Upper Paxtang district of Lancaster County (now Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County), probably as early as 1774, as their second child, Anna Catharina, born June 25, 1775, was baptized on July 16, 1775 at Wert’s Salem Lutheran Church, Killinger Pa. The couple had ten children, Mary Magdalena, Anna Catharine who married George Wirth, Sophia married to Jacob Wirth, John married to Ann Catherine Sieler, Peter married to Maria Magdalena Weaver, Jacob married to Elizabeth Heckert, Christina married to Michael Heckert, Ann Margaret married to George Shoop, Elizabeth married to Jeremiah Shawbell and Daniel married to Mary Ann Heckert.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
