Henry Miller was born on 13 February 1751 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was married to Sarah Ann Ursula Rose before 1771. They had the following children:
Henry was born in 1771 and married Barbara Kremer.
Juliana was born on 7 September 1779 and married David Watts.
Nancy was born on 14 April 1787 and married David Finley.
On 15 October 1775, he entered into service as a First Lieutenant in the Company of Captain Michael Dowell. In that same year, he was commissioned as a Captain of a Company of Foot in Colonel William Thompson’s Regiment. He was promoted on 12 November 1777 as Major of the 1st Pennsylvania Regiment of the Continental Army. When he resigned at the beginning of 1779, he did so as Lieutenant-Colonel of the 2nd Pennsylvania Regiment. During the years he served, he participated in the Battles of Long Island, White Plains, Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, Germantown, and Monmouth.
After leaving the military and returning to civilian life, he was appointed the High Sheriff of York County from 1780 until 1783. In 1783, he became a member of the State Legislature, where he served until 1785. In 1786, he became the Principal Clerk of a Court and served in other civil roles until about 1794. He was called again into the service of his country during the War of 1812 when he was commissioned as a Brigadier-General.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
