Nicholas Michaels was born in about 1757 in Rowan County, North Carolina.

The following record was found in Rowan County, North Carolina, showing Nicholas took the Oath of Allegiance, although not without some pressure from District:1

5 Aug. 1778.  The following persons who neglected or refused to appear before the Justices of their respective Districts on the day then advertised to take the Oath of Allegiance to this State, are now admitted to take the Oath & have Certificate they paid for so certifying:  (Among others) Robt. Michael, Nicholas Michael, Barney Michael, Peter Michael, and Nicholas Michael.

He married Mary Grubb, although the matrimony date is not recorded. His Last Will and Testament, of 19 October 1834, names the following children:

  • John's gravestone indicates he was born on 13 September 1786.
  • Jacob was born about 1788 anddeceased at the time the Will was written.
  • George was born on 17 January 1796
  • Sarah "Sally" was born in about 1800.
  • Molly
  • Hamilton was born about 1806
  • Margaret

Nicholas's Will also names his second wife, Margaret. Unfortunately, none of their children's births are included in Pilgrim Church records.

Pilgrim Church cemetery has the headstones of Nicholas Michael and his wife, Mary Grubb (1758-1827).

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
