Author: Shane Allen Miller
Rudolph “Rudy” Meyer was born in 1724 to a Mennonite family in Mein Berks County Pennsylvania. About 1750 he married Anna Light (born 1728), and had twelve children. Although Rudy was a practicing Mennonite and remained with his religious persuasion, he raised a patriotic family. Two of sons became patriots:
- Rudolph Meyer III (P-248691), and
- John (P-248674).

During the Revolutionary War he enlisted as private in Captain John Moore’s
5th Company, 2nd Battalion, Lancaster County Militia (PA).

He died in1783 at the age of 58 years, 3 months, and 2 days and is buried at the Kauffman’s Mennonite Meeting House Cemetery, Lebanon, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Anna Light died in 1792. In German the abbreviated first and last names, and the years of birth and death, are chiseled out in native limestone. These are still discernible.

In 1962 the Meyer Family Association placed a new granite marker between two ancient tombstones of Rudolph and Anna Light.

On October 9, 1970 a Memorial Shield of the Pennsylvania Society, National Society Daughters of the American Colonists was placed on the grave of this worthy pioneer American: Rudolph Meyer II.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
