Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn
Born in Maryland, March 20, 1764. He was a drummer in Lt Colonel Weltner's Company, German Battalion, from Frederick County, MD, having enlisted April 20, 1778, again February 27, 1779 and served until the end of the War. Joshua was at the Battles of White Plains and the Siege of Cornwallis. He married Mary Jones (1768-_) in 1785; children: John b. 1786, Moses b. 1790, Eli b. 1792, Bennell b. 1804, Maria, Susan and Adah b. 1808. His name appears on payroll for period ending December, 1780. His brother, Moses McKenzie, was a fifer and served in battles of White Plains, Monmouth and the siege of Yorktown. His brother, Jesse McKenzie, also served in the Revolution, and his widow spent her last days with relatives in Ross County and received a pension there. Joshua died in 1835 in Twin Township, Ross County, Ohio, and is possibly buried in the Moore Cemetery on US Route 50 near Cattail Road in Twin Township, Ross County, Ohio. A memorial stone to commemorate John’s service has been placed in the Twin Township Cemetery, Ross County, Ohio, 45601. GM Stone: Bronze marker placed by Nathaniel Massie Chap D.A.R. in 1924. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
