Robert McFarland was born 15 March 1759 in Orange, North Carolina. In 1780 Robert McFarland Jr. followed his father Lt. Robert McFarland Sr. over the mountains to attack the British at Kings Mountain in October 1780 and then went on to fight at Cowpens. Robert Sr. went on to become a Colonel as did Robert Jr. in the war of 1812. Robert Jr. died on 5 February 1837 in Hamblen County, TN
