He served in the South Carolina Militia and was at the Battle of McCall's Field.

 

Buried:  Everett Cemetery.

Author: John Trussell
Charles McCall was born in Pennsylvania, but he moved through Virginia to settle in Craven (now Darlington) Co., SC. He is shown as sergeant in Capt. Samuel Butler's Company, Col George Gabriel Powell's Bttn, SC Militia, in the expedition against the Cherokees from Oct 11, 1759 to January 15, 1760. He received a royal grant for 450 acres of land on Lynche's Creek, on the southwest side of the PeeDee River, SC, on Feb 21, 1772. He developed a large plantation with many acres and slaves. He applied for land in Ga as a Revolutionary Soldier in 1784. Fought in battle of McCall's Field, on his property and gave supplies to the army. Several of his sons were Rev War soldiers and fought with the Swamp Fox, Francis Marion. Children of Charles McCall and Celete Williams are:

On Dec 24, 1784, Gov. John Houston signed a grant of 200 acres of land in Effingham Co., Ga to Charles McCall, Revolutionary Soldier of SC. He became one of the wealthiest and most influential men in that area, owning land in Effingham, Bulloch and Screven Counties, in Ga. He held such public offices as Magistrate and Commissioner, Justice of the Peace(1792), Judge of the Inferior Court, State Senator (1799, 1801, 1802), and served in the Ga Legislature in 1798-1803 and 1805-1808. He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in Louisville (then Capital of Ga) in 1798 and helped frame the Constitution of Ga. He was the first Sheriff of Bulloch County in 1802.Charles is buried beside his wife in the Everette Family Cemetery, near Metter, Georgia, in Chandler County, Ga. His grave has been marked as a Revolutionary Soldier by the Briar Creek Chapter, DAR, Sylvania, Ga. Other notable close family members are Hugh McCall, first Historian of Georgia, buried in Colonial Cemetery in Savannah and Major James McCall, who fought in battle of Cow Pens, South Carolina.
