Author: James Wesley Akin Jr.

Daniel McKenney was born in 1745 in Amwell Township, New Jersey to Daniel McKenney, Sr. and Mary Coffey McKenney.   Daniel married Mercy Blatchey on March 3, 1762 in Somerset, New Jersey.

Daniel enthusiastically supported the rebellion of the American Colonies and enlisted as a private on December 15, 1776 in Virginia.

Daniel served for the Kentucky Militia under the command of General George Rogers Clark.  Daniel is listed on a payroll for Captain Robert Barnets’ Company of Militia drawn into actual service to the Falls of the Ohio under the command of Colonel John Logan.

Daniel received a Revolutionary War Bounty Land Grant of 100 acres on November 19, 1783 for his service as a private in Kentucky County, Virginia.  Daniel lived at McKinney, Kentucky which is located in present day Lincoln County.

Daniel and Mercy’s children were Ebenezer (born around 1765 in New Jersey), Collin (b. April 17, 1766 in New Jersey), Daniel (b.1769), Blatchey (b 1769), Eveline, Sallie (b.1782), Polly, Becky and Betsy (b.1790).

Daniel died on May 29, 1809 at 75 years of age and his gravesite is unknown.  His wife Blachy moved to Texas with her son Collin McKenney and died there in 1825.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
