Qualifying Service Description:
Private in Captain Manasseh Sawyer's co., Colonel Dike's (MA) regt.; muster roll for Dec., 1776- Feb., 1777; enlisted Dec 14, 1776; credited to the town of Templeton (MA); regt. raised to serve until Mar 1, 1777; reported discharged Jan 1, 1777,"
Receipt given to Lieut. Samuel Sawyer, dated Lancaster, Mar 11, 1776, sighed by said May and others, for wages for service from Dec 8, 1775 to Jan 17, 1776 in Captain White's co. 
Tho. May's enlistment, wages for his American military service in the (MA) militia between Dec 8, 1775 and Jan 17, 1776 reflect credit to the town of Templeton, Worcester Co, MA, for the official Massachusetts kept military record
Coordinates of grave were determined using a GPS receiver at the grave site

From the center of Hancock, preceed east on Main St, Rt 123, past the church on the right. Immediately past the post office on the right is the cemetery entrance on the left

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.

The cemetery is laid out in a grid pattern using iron labled stakes just inside the stonewall which parallels Rt 123. Grave location based on this grid is available from the town cemetery trustees
