Author: Robert William Maurer
The “Mahatongo” Maurers descend throught the emigrant Daniel Maurer who was born in 1749 in the village of Grumbach, Germany. He was the son of Heinrich Maurer and Maria Katharina Erhart. At the age of 15, Daniel and his sister, Anna Elizabeth, and her husband, Jacob Shankweiler emigrated to America in 1764 on the ship “Prince of Wales”.

Daniel Maurer landed at the Port of Philadelphia in November 1764. Daniel was naturalized in 1765 in Philadelphia.

Daniel lived in Lehigh and later Berks Counties, PA. He was a member of the Zion Lehigh Church from 1776 to 1792. He was married to Regina Wagner, the oldest daughter of Jacob Wagner who emigrated from Nottingen Germany in 1742. In 1792, Jacob Wagner and three of his son-in-laws moved their families “over the Blue Mountains” to the Pitman area. The son-in-laws were Daniel Maurer, Jacob Reiner, and Jacob Beisler. Daniel Maurer and Jacob Wagner purchased a 309 acre tract of land in the Mahatongo Valley. Both families attended Howerters Lutheran and Reformed Church after it was built in 1807.

Jacob Wagner and Daniel Maurer both fought in the American Revolution. Daniel served in Captain Haupt’s Company from Longswamp Township. Both are buried in Howerters cemetery.
I am a descendant of Daniel and Regina Wagner Maurer and their 6th child Heinrich.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
