Author: Michael J. Blum
Born on August 23, 1762, in Rahway Neck, New Jersey. At the age of 19 he left his bride of a few months and joined the army. He was a Private in the 3rd Regiment, Continental Troops, known as the New Jersey Line. This command under Colonel Elias Dayton landed on the James River, Virginia, September 21, 1781. He was engaged at the siege of Yorktown, present at the surrender of Cornwallis on October 19. And discharged November 3, 1783.
He Died on May 8, 1829, of “Apoplexy.” On May 20, 1853 his remains were moved from the grounds of the “Methodist Cemetery, Catherine Street, City to Buried Spring Grove Cemetery Section 51, Lot 47. Neves Family Memorial & Multiple burial stone. Ref. Stryker’s Hist. of Officers & Men of New Jersey in thr Revolution, pp.55, 240.
