Captain Dan Marvin, son of Deacon Reinold and Sarah (Marvin-Lay) Marvin, was born 2 Jan’y, 1730/1, in Lyme, Ct.; died there 30 Dec., 1776.; married 14 Oct., 1762, Mehitable, daughter of Capt. Samuel and Deborah (Dudley) Selden, of Lyme, baptized 4 Dec., 1743; she joined the church there Aug., 1773; she survived her husband and married (2), as his second wife, 26 Sept., 1782, in Lyme, Abraham, son of David and Sarah (Chalker) Pratt, of Saybrook, later of Essex, Ct., whom she also survived, dying 16 Aug., 1821, at an advanced age. In May, 1767, Dan was one of the committee for managing certain funds devoted to the use of the Lyme schools. Concerning which there was some controversy. He was “established ensign of the first train-band” of Lyme, 1 Oct., 1767; lieutenant, May, 1771, and captain, May, 1772. In May, 1773, he was appointed one of a special commission on the condition of the fisheries in Lyme. He was a selectman 1773, ’74, and ’75. In May, 1778, Ezra Selden, his brother-in-law, was appointed to administer on his estate, which was largely of landed property. Source: Marvin, George Franklin, and William T. R. Marvin. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
