1777, served as an artificer in the regiment commanded by Colonel James Debail
1778, served as a Private in the company of Captain Sylvanus Seeley, commanded by Colonel Ephraim Martin
Served under Captains Job Brookfield, Johnson, and John Laitin, a portion of which was in the regiment of Colonel Seeley
Served as a seaman aboard the gunboat Hornet under Captain Thomas Hyler
Served as a seaman aboard a large galley commanded by Captain Jacksons
Served as a seaman aboard the privateer Jolley Tar under Captain Isaac Harrison and was captured in Jamaica by the British. Was imprisoned on the ship Jersey in the fall of 1781 for five months

Alexander Martin was born in 1758, in New Jersey (or 1762 Morristown, New Jersey).
He enlisted at New Brunswick, New Jersey, was an artificer under Captain Deboise in Flying Camp; was at Springfield and Monmouth. Later enlisted as a volunteer sailor on "Jolly Tar" under Capt Isaac Harrison, as substitute for brother DavidThey sailed to Jamaica where he was captured by the British Frigate Jason, carried to New York City and confined to the British prison ship Jersey in the Fall of 1781 for 5 months.
He came to Hamilton County, Ohio, and located in Sycamore Twp., where he was a blacksmith. On August 22, 1832, he applied for a pension in Cincinnati. He was still living in Sycamore Township in 1840. His first wife was Lovice Prescott, and the second time was to Mary Darling
He died on April 29, 1846 (or 1843) in Cincinnati, Ohio and was buried in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery (census 1849), Lot 72, Section G, Grave 2.
