Author: Adam Michael Puhak

Andrew Lynn was one of the first settlers of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, about 1761.  He was born at Allegany County, Maryland, and settled in an area near what is present-day Brownsville, Pennsylvania.   Having some trouble with the local natives, he returned to Maryland for a short period of time, but returned to Fayette County with his family, including his wife, Mary Ashercraft Johnson.  In the following years, Andrew was granted multiple parcels of land, which by 1769, made him the largest landowner in the county.  His land gains continued, aside from land near his original settlement.  He also gained land at present-day Washington Township, Fayette County.

Andrew Lynn entered Revolutionary War service as an Assistant Wagon-Master at Westmoreland, County, Pennsylvania, January 9, 1778.  He served the entirety of the war, and reached the rank of Captain.  It is said that Andrew once socialized with General Washington under a locust tree on Lynn’s land.

After the war, Andrew returned to his homestead, where he remained until his death in 1794.  Andrew was buried at a family graveyard on his land.

Andrew and Mary had six children: Nancy Ann, William, Andrew, Ayers, Issac and John.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
