Directions to Cemetery / Gravesite:

The cemetery is located on top of a hill off Lonesome Dove Lane at Elizabethton, Tennessee. From Johnson City, take US 321 toward Elizabethton. At the first traffic light, turn left on to Miligan Highway. At the first traffic, light turn left on to Powder Branch Road. In 0.9 miles, a small road bears off to the left. This is Lonesome Dove Lane. As soon as you turn left, there is a gate on the left that will take you into a field. Follow the road in the field to the top of the hill and the Hyder Cemetery is on the left

Robert Lusk was a captain in the South Carolina militia on the frontier.   He built and manned Fort Rutledge on the Keowee River, Fort Seneca on the Seneca River and Fort Independence on the Keowee River.   He defended these forts and others from the Cherokee Indians.  He is known to have been associated with the First Spartan Regiment and to have held the rank of captain during the years 1777 to 1781.  He participated in the Florida Expedition in May and June 1778.

Captain Lusk died before Revolutionary War Pensions were approved, he is mentioned in the pension applications for John Looney (*S1553), Ralph Rodgers (*S4722) and Robert Wilson (*W2302)
