Author: George Allen Jones
Philip Derr was born on February 25, 1750. His exact place of birth is unknown, but was probably in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

He moved to the Middletown Valley of Maryland before 1777 the year of his marriage.

Philip Derr was a Private in Captain Basil Williams Company, Maryland Militia, Washington County. He died on February 3, 1821 and is buried in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland.

The Maryland Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has dedicated a marker at his gravesite.
