Love, Amos II (b.1740, VA; d. Apr 1798, Onslow County, NC) Married about 1773 to Mary Polly (b. 1752, VA; d. 1806, Onslow County, NC) The first that I have found about Amos Love to date, March 1926, is to the effect that he was living in Virginia in 1760 where his daughter Winifred was born. The next notes that I find show him living in Onslow County, N.C., and his son a Justice of County court. Amos Love mad a will dated 1770 and probated in 1773. In this will he mentions wife Mary, sons, Amos, Thomas, Charles; daughters Winifred, Mary, Margaret, Elishe, and Elizabeth. Amos Love 2nd was a prominent man in Onslow County, during the Colonial and Revolutionary periods. He made a will Feb. 1798 and it was probated the following April. He mentions wife Mary; Sons Amos, John, Charles; Daughters, Winifred, Elishe, Mary, Hannah, Penelope. Amos Love (III) located in Laurens Country, GA and was prominent in the community affairs. He died in 1825 or 1835 while attending State Legislature of which he as a member. He left one son Peter Early and two daughters, Mary, who married Moses Guyton and another who married Gen. Eli Warren of Houston County, GA. Peter Early Love was a member of the General Assemble, Solicitor General, Mayor of Thomasville, Judge of the Southern Circuits and Member of Congress. John Love married Elizabeth Hall and they left many descendants, among whom are Mrs. Lucy W. Bruce of Brunswick, GA and Mrs. B.C. Mohler of Grenada, MS. Charles Love also married and left descendants. Will of Amos Love State of North Carolina, Onslow County In the Name of God Amen, I Amos love being very weak in body, but perfect in mind and memory -- and knowing that it is my appointed once for all men to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament -- That is to say, Principally and first of all I recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it to me and my body I recommend to the Earth to be Buried in a Decent Christian like manner; At the Discretion on of my Executors who I shall hereafter name as touching my worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life; I give and dispose in the manner and form following: Imprimise: My will and desire is that my just debts to be paid and fully discharged. Item: My will and desire is that my beloved wife Mary Love have her Dower for the lands laid off on the lands where I now live and I give here therewith one feather bed and furniture; a --torn-- five cows and calves; and three head of --torn-- pigs all those species of stock to be -----torn--- my beloved wife, my young follow ---torn--- her natural life, but in case ---torn---executors who I shall name should ---torn--- bosslementor of his being carried ---torn---either of them cases I leave it in their ---torn--- take said Negro in their hands and to ---torn---wife his full hire annually as long as he is un ---torn ----circumstances; I gave my beloved wife my bay mare called Pol and bridle and Saddle to her and her heirs forever. Item: I gave and bequeath to my son Amos Love all the land I purchased of Josiah Howard lying in the Fork of Blue Creek and the No. West of New River by estimation Eight hundred and forty acres to him and his heirs forever. Item: I gave and bequeath to my son Amos Love one young Negro lad named Aaron, to him and his heirs forever. The above legacies not to take place until my Sd. son Amos Love arrives at the age of twenty one years. Item: I gave an bequeath to son John the tract of parcel land I bought of John James, lying on and between south west and Beaver Dam; with all my lands adjoining thereto; like---torn---but one Negro boy named and called Little Solomon, the prof --- torn--- of all which is to go to the use and support of my family. Likewise the expenses that may accrue to be paid out of my estate, until Sd. son John arrives at the age of twenty one years, then the same to him and his heirs forever. Item: I gave and bequeath to my son Charles Love the land and plantation whereon I now live with all my lands I own adjoining thereto, with the improvements on the same, with the proviso that he only have two thirds of the same during the term of his mother's natural live, likewise, one negro boy named Bob; The profits of all which is to go to the use and support of my family. Likewise the expenses that may accrue to be paid out of my estate until Sd. son Charles arrive ---torn--- The same to him and ---torn--------death he is to receive ---torn---his heirs forever. Item: I gave and bequeath to my daughter Winifred Love one negro Girl named Frank, one feather bed and furniture, five cows and calves, the profits of which is to go to the use and support of my family likewise the expenses that may accrue to be paid out of my estate until my Sd. daughter Winifred Love shall marry or arrive at the age of twenty one years. The to her and her heirs forever. Item: I gave and bequeath to my daughter Mary Love one negro girl named Silvery, one feather bed and furniture, five cows and calves. The profits of which is to go to the use and support of my family, likewise the expenses that may accrue to be paid out of my estate, until my Sd. daughter Mary Love shall marry of arrive at the age of twenty one years, then the same to her and her heirs forever. Item: I gave and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Love one negro girl named Sarah, one feather bed and furniture, five cows and calves, the profits of which is to go the use and support of my family. Likewise the expenses that may accrue to paid out of my estate, until my Sd. daughter Hannah Love shall marry or arrive at the age of twenty one years, then the same to her and her heirs forever. Item: I lend my beloved wife Mary Love one negro girl child name Lettis during the term of her natural live --- I gave and bequeath to my daughter Penelope Love one ---torn--- girl child named Lettis, then ---torn---with one feather bed and ---torn--- which is to go to the use and sup----torn---- the expenses that may accrue ---torn--until my Sd. daughter Penelope --torn---at the age of twenty one years ---torn---her heirs forever. Item: And whereas my wife expects she is pregnant, if the child she goes with shall be born alive, I give to said child all my lands lying between Blue Creek and Fernals Branch and it shall be a son my wish is that my Executor purchase for him out of the pro---torn---arising out of my estate, a negro boy about ten years old, and if a daughter a negro girl instead of a boy and five cows and calves, one feather bed and furniture to said child and its heirs forever. Item: My will and desire is that my negro man Sambo, and my negro man Austin be kept by my executors at the most ---torn--advantageous business, for the supporting and school --torn-- my children at the discretion of my executors. My will is that after my children is schooled and raised until my youngest child arrives to the age of fifteen years, then said two negroes to be divided between my three sons, Amos, Charles, and John; and my will is that the death of my wife my negro man Solomon, lent to my wife during her live, I give at her death, to my son John and his heirs forever. Native of North Carolina and patriot of the Revolutionary War. Eight miles north west of Dublin near Poplar Springs church lie buried two patriots of the war for Josiah Warren and Amos Love both of them natives of North Carolina who settled in what is now Laurens when this region of country was a wilderness.
