Author: Eric H. Troutman
Johann Georg Loos was the son of Johann Christian & Anna Rosina (Klugh) Loos. He was born ca. 1723 in Wiesa, Chemnity, Saxony, Germany. He was married to Anna Margaretha Leiner about 1743. Georg Loos, his wife and his three oldest children: Jacob, Anna Elizabeth and Conrad arrived at the port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 2, 1753 aboard the ship Edinburgh.

His two other children Johann Georg Jr. and Magdalena were born in Pennsylvania.

Georg Loos settled in Centre Twp., Berks co. PA. His homestead was just a few miles from where families were being massacred during the French and Indian War. During the Revolutionary War he was a First Sergeant in Captain George Miller’s Company, Berks County, Pennsylvania Militia. Georg Loos and his son Jacob were with Captain Miller’s Company during the march from Womelsdorf, PA to Perth Amboy, NJ from August 11 to 22, 1776, in preparation for the Battle of Long Island.

Since George and Jacob Loos were weavers, tradition has it that they were assigned to keeping the tents in repair. Georg Loos died in 1803 at his homestead in Centre Twp., Berks County, PA. He and his wife are buried at the Salem Belleman’s Church Cemetery, Centre Twp., Berks County, PA.

Today the family name is spelled Loose.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
