  2. Capt William Bacon's co., Colonel John Fellows's regt.; muster roll dated Aug. 1, 1775; enlisted May 8, 1775; service, 3 mos. 1 day
  3. Company return dated Dorchester, Oct. 6, 1775; reported on furlough
  4. Order for bounty coat or its equivalent in money dated Dorchester, Dec. 19, 1775 (MA Soldiers and Sailors, IX:935-936)

Benaiah Loomis was born on July 15, 1752 in Berkshire County, MA to Josiah Loomis, Jr. and Abigail Bacon. He married Rachel Patterson on November 15, 1771 and they had nine known children: Elizabeth (Betsy) born 15 July 1772, died 1863 and married Philip Bartle; Catherine born inMarch 1774, died 1856 and married Peter Rorapaugh; Edward born 2 February 1777, died 1869 and married Mary Smith; Tabitha born June 1779, died 1861 and married Peter Bartle; Ruth born 20 March 1781, died 1835 and married Jeduthan Greene; Daniel born 14 Feb 1783, died 1854 and married Sarah Ten Broeck; Amy born 25 Feb 1788 doed 1823 and married to John Stevens; Nancy born May 22, 1790 doed 1846 and married to Chauncy Hill; and Jane born March 21 1785 died in girlhood. After the death of Rachel he married Prudence “Prudy” Corbin and they had no children. Benaiah died at the age of 86 years soon after filing his pension papers. His father was Joseph Loomis.


He settled in Oxford, NY about 1790 on the west side of the river, near the south line of the town where he died on March 8, 1838. His wife, Rachel, died about 1815. Her father was an Irish tinsmith.
