Captain Johannes “John” Lock was born on 4 July 1755 in Frederick County, Maryland. Given the family was in a traditionally Germanic-settled area of Maryland and the German spellings of given names, Lock may be a derivative of the German surname Loch.
John married Salome Bastian at Frederick County on 22 March 1780. Their known children were:
Henry was born in 1781.
Mary Magdalena was born on 12 October 1783.
George was born on 16 May 1789.
John was born on 5 July 1785.
Susanna Catherina was born on 12 April 1787.
Philip was born on 26 December 1791.
Abraham was born on 20 June 1794.
During the American Revolution, John Lock’s name appears on a list of men enrolled in the Company of Captain Peter Mantz, under the command of Colonel William Grayson, dated 13 July 1776. In the records of Maryland Militia Promotions, dated 18 June 1794, there is a notice of Captain John Lock resigning his position as Captain in the Twenty-Ninth Regiment of Frederick County. It is unknown as to when he was promoted to Captain or how long held this rank.
After the war, he received bounty land in Ohio. A man named John Lock made many large number of public land purchases at Preble County starting in 1811 and continuing through 1815. It is possible some or all of these later land purchases were by his son, John.
Captain Lock made his Last Will and Testament on 1 September 1818. He died on 4 October 1818. He was buried at Roselawn Cemetery at Lewisburg, Preble County, Ohio. Salome, the wife of John Lock, died on 29 December 1840, aged 93 years. She was buried next to her husband.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
