Thomas Lewis was born January 9, 1742 in Fairfax County, Virginia and died August 4, 1822 in Nelson County, Kentucky.
He married Judith Ferguson, daughter of Joshua and Mary Ferguson of Fairfax County, Virginia on July 29, 1764. They are buried at Poplar Flats Cemetery, about six miles east of Bardstown, KY along with other Ferguson family members.
Thomas Lewis was sworn in as a Captain on August 11, 1777 in the Virginia Militia of Loudon County, formerly Fairfax County. Lewis guarded prisoners on the march to Philadelphia and was at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown.
He received 1333 1/3 acres of land, issued under the Act of August 10. 1790. Lewis’s will is recorded in Nelson County, KY naming his wife, Judith and his six children John Lewis, Sarah Weller, Elizabeth Tonge, Catharine Protzman, Juliet Ramey, and Fanny Jones and the children of Moses Harroll deceased by my daughter Ann and the children of William McAhron by my daughter Jane as beneficiaries.
