Qualifying Service Description:
  1. 1775 as a Private in Jacob Bard’s Party in Captains John Moll and Michael Motz Companies, Northumberland County Militia.
  2. Served as a Sergeant in Jacob Spees company.
  3. Captain of the 3rd Company, 1st Battalion, commanded by Colonel Peter Hosterman of the Northumberland County Militia.

Andrew Leist was born on 30 November 1755 in Huntersdon, Pennsylvania, the son of David and Elizabeth (Stimley) Leist. 

He married Elizabeth Landman in 1773, and they had thirteen known children:

  • David was born on 6 October 1777 and married Catherine Spade.
  • John was born on 20 April 1784 and married Lizzie Yaple.
  • Elizabeth was born on 7 October 1802 and married Peter Johnston.
  • Andrew was born on 4 August 1782 and married Catherine Yoder.
  • Jacob was born in 1788 and married Elizabeth Shoemaker.
  • Peter was born on 28 February 1798 and married Elizabeth Wann.
  • Catherine was born on 7 April 1779 and never married.
  • Mary was born on 15 December 1780 and died young.
  • George was born on 20 February 1790 and married Barbara Moyer.
  • Phillip was born on 8 February 1795 and married Rebecca Shoemaker.
  • Samuel was born on 29 March 1800 and married Mary Miller.

Andrew enlisted in 1775 as a Private in Jacob Bard’s Party in Captains John Moll and Michael Motz Companies, Northumberland County Militia. Later served as a Sergeant in Jacob Spees company. Later, he was promoted to Captain of the 3rd Company, 1st Battalion, commanded by Colonel Peter Hosterman of the Northumberland County Militia.

He had three daughters named Mary Ann. The first died as an infant. The second died before reaching ten years of age. The third lived to be an adult.

The Patriot died on 20 November 1821, and he was buried in the Zion Cemetery.
