Jonathan Latimer, Jr’s parents were Jonathan Latimer (1703-1778), and Boradil (aka Boradel) Denison (1701-51) a daughter of George Denison of New London, Connecticut (CT). Jonathan (Sr) married Boradil Denison on 6 Apr 1721; source, Connecticut, Church Record Abstracts, 1630-1920, Vol 079,- 250- New London, CT. Jonathan, Jr was born 27 May 1724 and baptized on 14 Jun 1724 at New London, CT. [Ibid. Ibidem (in the same place)]
Jonathan Latimer, Jr, Capt., Jona[than] of New London, married on 28 Jan 1747/8 Lucretia Griswold (1731-1820) a daughter of Reverend George Griswold (1692-1761) a resident of Old Lyme, New London County, CT and a member of the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme. Remarkably, this Holy Union produced three daughters –Hannah, b. c1748; Barodel, b. 1750; Lucretia b. 1773 and ten sons, George Griswold (Ensign, 5th Co., 6th CT Rgt; Col. Sam’l. H. Parsons) b. 1749; Jonathan, III (Capt.) b. c1753; Wetherel, [Private- (1783-4) Sumner Co., militia, Territory South of the Ohio] b. 1757; Charles, b. 1759; Robert, b. (1760-1811); Nicholas b. 1763; Griswold, b. 1764; Joseph, b. 1766; Nathaniel, b. c1768 and, Daniel, b. (1771-1781).
Jonathan Latimer’s service is recorded (1775) in the Revolutionary War as a Captain of the 3rd Company, 7th (CT) Provincial Rgt, of Colonel Charles Webb. Webb’s regt, was designated “The 39th Regiment of Foot.” Latimer was commissioned as Major in the 7th (CT) Provincial Rgt, 6 Jul 1775 before discharge on 19 Dec. He was commissioned on 20 Jun 1776 as a Lieut Col., 4th Bttn, Jeremiah Wadsworth’s New England (Militia) Bgde, and, discharged on 11 Dec 1776. Recommissioned in the Northern Dept., New England Militia between Aug thru Nov., 1777, elevated to Colonel and, ordered to reinforce Gen’l. Horatio Gates at Saratoga. For details, see: Francis B. A search of Latimer’s American RevWar service , produced a Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Application For Membership for Joseph Henry Latimer, (Dec’d.) approved on July 12, 1923. The handwritten application was notarized on 12 Jun 1923 at Fulton County, GA. It reflected Joseph Henry Latimer’s National Number 36832 and, his (Georgia) State Number 35. His American Revolutionary war ancestor‘s service record, above was confirmed, LieutCol. , Connecticut State Rgt., 20th Jun to Dec 11, 1776…, see: (1903) Heitman’s Historical Register.
Jonathan, Jr died 11 Nov 1802 at age 78 at Sumner County, Tennessee. His will appears on record at Sumner County Probate Court, Will Book 1, pg 99. He was interred at (Old) Beech Cemetery and Sumner Breech Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3216 Long Hollow Pike i.e., Hwy 174 at Hendersonville, Sumner County, TN, and Latitude: 36.371484 and Longitude: -86.626023
