Qualifying Service Description:
  1. 1775, he served as a Private in the Minuteman Company of Captain Phineas Moore, commanded by Colonel Ephraim Doolittle.
  2. 1788, he served as a Sergeant in the company of Captain Nathan Harrington, of Major Reed's detachment.

Author: Robert Roy Thomas

Thomas Lamb was born on 13 April 1747 in Leicester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, the son of Jonathan and Elizabeth Lamb.1

He married Mehitable Newton, as proven by the Worcester County probate record for Hezekiah Newton, which includes heirs “Thomas Lamb and Mehitabell, his wife.” They had the following known children:

  • Artemas was born on 13 September 1772 and died young.
  • Lucinda was born on 22 May 1775 and died young.
  • Silas was born on 1 October 1776 and died young.
  • Alpheus was born on 12 May 1779 and married Eunice Clark.
  • Rufus was born on 5 January 1782
  • Lavalia was born on 22 February 1784
  • Sarah “Sally” Russel was born on 22 January 1786 and married Joseph Howard Jr.
  • Emery was born on 4 April 1789
  • Jonah was born on 27 November 1792

During the American Revolution, Thomas was a resident of Paxton when, in 1775, he served as a Private in the Minuteman Company of Captain Phineas Moore, commanded by Colonel Ephraim Doolittle. The company marched on the alarm of 19 April 1775 to Cambridge for service of ten days.3

On 31 March 1788, he served as a Sergeant in the company of Captain Nathan Harrington of Major Reed's detachment, possibly from Colonel Stearnls Regiment. He served for three months and two days at Rutland.3


The Patriot died on 22 August 1828 in Paxton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
