David Kirby was born to John Kirby (Kerby, Kearby) and Joannah Owen about July 14, 1738 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. John's will dated November 19, 1772 and made in Pittsylvania County listed David amongst his children. Elizabeth Tarrent was wed to David Kirby in 1756 and their first child Jesse was born the next year. Among their other children are Solomon, Agnes, Asa, Samuel, Sarah, Elizabeth, Josiah, and Zephora. His daughter Agnes married James Turley (P-307893) who served as a private in the Virginia militia on at least three occasions.
In Henry County, Virginia, on September 13, 1777 David Kirby took the oath of allegiance, He was 39 years old. Despite risking his family and fortune by allying with the patriot cause, David and his family prospered. In his will dated April 28, 1811 he spelled out the division of his estate. He took care to ensure not just his wife's share, but also the portion for each of his children. David died sometime after this date but before the “proving” of his will on July 1, 1811 in Warren County, Kentucky. David is said to be buried at the Old Lee Harris Farm Cemetery in Warren County, Kentucky. No known marker remains to show his place of rest.

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
