Author: David Lynn Miller
George W. Killinger of Pennsylvania & Virginia was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on August 15, 1756 to Johann Michael and Catherine Heilman Killinger. He died in Marion, Smythe County, Virginia on March 21st, 1842 and is buried in Royal Oak Cemetery.
George was a first-generation American, his father having been born in Hasselbach, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, in 1731 and coming to America some time before 1755, when he married George’s mother, Catherine Heilman, in Pennsylvania. George’s father received a patent from the Penns, proprietors of Pennsylvania, dated September 9. 1765, for 1,000 acres of land along what is now the Berks and Dauphin pike, in Londonderry township. Dauphin county (now North and South Annville Townships, Lebanon county), and he built his home on the banks of the stream called Killinger's Run. They had four children: Andrew, George, Michael and John.
George’s father Michael also served in the war under Captain Balzer Orths in 1st Company, 2nd Battalion Lancaster County Militia.
George first served in 1779 in Captain Martin Weaver’s Company of the 6th Class of the 4th Battalion, Lancaster County Militia, attaining the rank of Private, 2nd class.
He also served in the 8th Company, 1st Battalion, Lancaster County Militia, under Lieutenant Colonel John Rogers and Major Abraham Latcha. He was elected Ensign of the 1st Battalion Lancaster County Militia and served under Captain Robert McCallen and Lieutenant Samuel Weir.
In 1781, George married Mary Margaret Wampler and they had twelve children, four boys and eight girls: Elizabeth (1782), Katherine (1783), Mary (1784), George (1787), Michael (1789), Molly (1793), John (1797), Jacob (1798), Sally (1800), Christina (1803), Ann (1805) and Peter (1808).
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
