Qualifying Service Description:
  1. Private in Fifth Troops, Light Horse Brigade (Light Dragoons), of Colonel Skeldon's 2nd NJ Regiment. Enlisted 25 January 1777 in Woodbridge/NJ discharged 04 Mar 1779.
  2. He was in the Battles of Long Island, of Kings Bridge, and of White Plains

  • Jaquess Family cemetery is located in field near old Jonathan Jaquess homestead. Several family members are buried there. Original tombstane is there along with new V.A. tombstone indicating his service in the Revolutionay War.

Jonathan Jacquess Jr. provided service 2 years on land and 3 years on sea.  He was in the Second NJ Regiment under Colonel Sheldon.  He was involved in the battles of White Plains, Long Island and Kings Mountain.  He aided in loading some vessels with rocks or stone and then sinking them in the North River to prevent the British fleet from passing up the river.  He was detailed to carry messages to and from General Washington and his officers.

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law.
