Born April 22, 1757 in Horsham Township, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, militia company raised for Montgomery County and served as a private and a first sergeant. He participated in the Battles of Germantown, Perth Amboy and was with Gen. Washington when he crossed the Delaware River on 25 Dec 1776. He married Mary Walker (1760-1844); children: John, Elizabeth b. 1780, Sarah b. 1785, Margaret b. 1796, William, Hannah and Patty. Peter and his family came to Ross County in 1802. ln 1840, he was listed a pensioner in Deerfield Township at the age of 84. He died August 31, 1841 and was buried at (Ater Cemetery) Mt. Zion Old Baptist Cemetery, County Road 137, Clarksburg, Ross County, Ohio 43115 (at the intersection of Stingy Ln. and Brown Rd.) Mary Walker, his wife, died September 24, 1844, aged 84 years, 7 months. His name was given in the list of pensioners who died in Ross County, p. 331, History Ross & Highland Counties, says : "Colonel Peter Jackson was one of the very first settlers in Deerfield Township. He came in the year 1801 or 1802 to Deer Creek." (He was called “Colonel” as a title of respect in later years.) US Nat'l. Archives (NARA) WDC Pension File #S55611; and, applications for NSSAR Nat'l. No.(s) 184095 and, Nat'l. No.186771 approved Mar 25, 2013. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
