Daniel Hullinger was born 12 March 1757 in Warick Township, Lancaster County, Virginia. Based on Revolutionary War military records of the Virginia Militia in the Virginia Archives, he enlisted in the 9th Battalion, 6th Company as a clerk on 24 May 1779, reenlisted in the same company as a drummer on 25 Oct 1779. One year later he reenlisted as a Lieutenant in the 3th Battalion, 7th Company on 22 Oct 1780. He later briefly served from 3 July 1781 to 25 Aug 1781 as a substitute for Conrad Mack.
After the war he went to Shenandoah County, Virginia, where in 1783 he married Ann Shockey, who was born 6 Dec 1767. They moved to Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio, about 1788 which was a densely forested country. Ann died August 20, 1836, and he 22 July 1839. Both are buried in Rector Cemetery, Champaign County, Ohio.
In Switzerland where his father was born, the Hullinger name was originally spelled Hőllinger with an umlaut over the letter o. In English this is variously translated to Hullinger or Hollinger.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
