Hooks, Thomas (b. 1731, Chowan, NC; d. 1803, Duplin County, NC) Married (1)in 1752 in Bertie County, NC to Ann Belotte (b. 1734, Bertie County, NC; d. Aft March 1772, Duplin County, NC). Father of Mary Hooks Slocumb, wife of Ezekial Slocumb who is memorialized at Moore’s Creek National Park. Thomas Hooks, Sr., his wife and 9 children moved from Bertie County to Duplin County, North Carolina in March 1772. Anna died later that same year. Curtis Hooks was a witness to his father's will in 7 Nov 1801. Hillary Hooks was also a witness but this was not Thomas' son Hillary because he died before his father in 1792. A codicil was added 13 Jan 1803 and the will was proved April, 1803. Service: Lieutenant under LtCol James Kenan in NC Militia from Duplin County, NC. He was allowed five pounds pension for 20 days service in February 1776 on an expedition against the insurgents. It was on this expedition that he fought in the Battle of Moore’s Creek on 27 Feb 1776.
