Holt enlisted within the PA State militia ensign, the lowest rank officer during the RevWar, also married Sarah Milliken born ca 1758. John's grandfather was Thomas Holt born in GBR, immigrated to PA. John Holt's father was Thos., Holt, Jr. who m. Elizabeth Mitchell of Lewistown and several children were born to this union among them, John who m. (1779) Sarah Milliken. The couple resettled at Centre County, PA following the Revolution
