Henry Hess served as a Private in the York County, Pennsylvania Militia under Capt. Henry Ferree.

He is also known as Johann/John Heinrich/Henry Hess and was born to Johann Ulrich Hess and Ursula Schlatter in 1752 in York County, Pennsylvania. He died in 1790, in York County at age 38.

In 1782, he married Maria Elizabeth Bauman and they had the following children:

1. Johann Heinrich (1783-1859) married Barbara Goodling
2. Charles (1785-1833) married Nancy J. Culp
3. Johann Philip ((1787-1849) married Elizabeth Beck
4. Elizabeth (1789-1855)
5. Michael Hess (1792-1876) married Susannah Myers
6. Abraham (1794-1878)
7. Jacob (1797-1874)
