Wendel Heiss was born in about 1745 in Germany. Someone of this name took the Oath of Allegiance on 20 October 1764 in Philadelphia. He had made the journey from Rotterdam on the Ship Richmond. He was still in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when the census was taken in 1764.1
He married Elizabeth Volck sometime soon after he arrived in the colonies, and they had seven known children:
Jacob (1767 – 1850)
Daniel (1777 – 1855
George (1779 – 1863)
Margret (1780 - ?)
Eve (1783 - ?)
Henry (1788 – 1855)
John (1794 - ?)
Between 1764 and 1779, Wendel moved to Shrewsbury, York County, Pennsylvania, since all records from 1779 to his death placed him in this locale.
During the American Revolution, he performed his patriotic service when he paid the Supply Tax in York Township, York County, Pennsylvania, in 1779, 1780, 1781, 1782, and 1783.2
Wendel performed military service in 1780 as a Private in Captain Aquila Wiley's Company, 5th Battalion of York County Militia.3
He lived in Shrewsbury, York County, Pennsylvania, in the United States Federal Census for 1800 and 1810. In 1800, there were seven individuals in his household, and in 1810, there were four.
It is believed that the Patriot died before 1816 because his Last Will and Testament was recorded on 11 March 1815 and proven in court on 13 July 1816. His son, Daniel, and a friend, Peter Klinefelter, are named executors of the estate. He left his estate to his wife, Elizabeth, and each of his children.4

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
