He drew land in the 1827 Georgia Land Lottery as a Revolutionary War Soldier.

Buried: Holly Springs Baptist Church, near Bowman.

"Moses Haynes Sr. was a pioneer settler of Elbert County, Georgia.  He came there from South Carolina about 1790 or a little earlier.  He settled in the upper part of the county on land bounty containing one thousand acres which he received as a Revolutionary soldier."  He gave 3 acres of land where the old Holly Springs Baptist Church was built in 1796.  "Moses Haynes was one of the first grand jurors of Elbert County and served as Justice of the Peace for a number of years."  He was a native of Culpepper County, Virginia and lived for a while in South Carolina, where he was a member of Padgett's Creek Baptist Church.  He was the son of Jasper Haynes and Elizabeth Powell.  His will was recorded on May 4, 1829.  Named in his will were children: Stephen, William, Moses, Thomas, Nancy, Elizabeth Keeling, Mary Ellen (Polly), Sara Cardin, and grandchildren, Moses Cardin and Jane Glenn.
