Author: Michael J. Blum
Born in 1739 in PA. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, in the 5th Battalion of Pennsylvania Continental army on August 7, 1775, at Strausburg, Lancaster County, PA. He was in the battle of White Plains where he was wounded in his left high. He marched to New York City but arrived too late to participate in the battles, from there he retreated to New Jersey, and was discharged at Morristown, New Jersey. He then traveled on frozen feet to New Brunswick, where he was ordered to protect the surrounding area from hostile Indians. Buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lot A, Section 14. In 1844 members of the Cincinnati Horticulture Society formed a cemetery association because of a concern by many community leaders over the lack of proper interment facilities in the area. On August 28, 1845, the original 220 acres were dedicated as a cemetery. Spring Grove Cemetery Records. Microfiche. Now also available online, http://www. Springrove.org. Cincinnati Daily Gazette. (Obituaries).Cincinnati, Ohio, 1827-1850. He Married twice. He moved from Lancaster County, PA to Virginia, to North Carolina, back to Virginia. In 1827 he moved to College Hill, Hamilton County, Ohio. On August 14, 1832 he was living in Millcreek, Hamilton, County, when he applied for a pension. Many families reburied their ancestors at Spring Grove because of the quality of perpetual care provided, the beauty and serenity of the grounds. On May 15, 1976 a bronze tablet was placed on a large granite boulder listing some of the Revolutionary War soldiers buried at the Cemetery. This memorial is across the road where Sections 113, 115 and 116 join to the North end of the Woodland Preserve. [Lat. 39.1672739 Ln. -84.5349940.] Hamilton County Recorder’s Office. Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
