Jonathan Haskell was born March 19, 1755 at Rochester, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He entered Revolutionary Army at the age of 20 and served until the close. He served in the Massachusetts Line as an Ensign in the 14th Massachusetts, January 13, 1777 in Colonel G. Bradford's 14th Massachusetts Continental Regiment; Lieutenant and Adjutant, February 4, 1779; transferred to 7th Massachusetts, January 1, 1781; transferred to 2nd Massachusetts, June 12, 1783. He was promoted to Brevet-Captain on September 30, 1783. Jonathan was retained in Jackson's Continental Regiment on November 3, 1783 and served until June 20, 1784, was stationed at Marietta in 1791. He was commissioned a Major in 1795. Came to Marietta in 1788 and settled at Belpre near Farmers Castle. He returned to Belpre after the war, where he lived the rest of his life. He married Phoebe Green (1772-_); children: Maria b. 1800, John b. 1794, Charles b. 1798 and Eliza b. 1806. Received BLW#929-200-20 in 1790. He died in 1814 or December 13, 1814, at Belpre, Ohio, and was buried at Belpre Cedarville Cemetery Washington County, Ohio. His headstone has been located. There is a grave marker placed by the Marietta Chapter with a Revolutionary War marker, placed in 1921. References: Williams’ History of Washington County. Further information: Marietta Chapter. Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
