William Harvey was a private in North Carolina Militia. William volunteered in July 1776, under Captain Eckle in Colonel Cleveland's North Carolina Regiment.  He marched to Swanna Mountain in pursuit of hostile Indians, serving one month, seven days; thence to Wilkes County, North Carolina, where he volunteered in 1780 under Captain Allen and Colonel Cleveland; thence marched to King's Mountain and served three months.  He again volunteered under Captain Allen and marched to Moravian Town in pursuit of "...straying parties of the enemy...," for 30 days.  He again volunteered under Captain Allen and went in pursuit of Tories,  He caught deserters and returned them to Salisbury, for a total time in service of six months and 15 days.  He married Lenah Gentry.
