Israel Harris is from Cornwall, Hartford County, Connecticut where he was born 27 Feb 1747. His father later moved the family to Nine Partners NY. After his marriage to Sarah Morse in 1769. In 1755 he served with Green Mountain Boys from the Hampshire Grants led by Ethan Allen during the capture of Fort Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain on May 10, 1775; and invaded Canada later that year in 1775. He moved to Williamstown, Berkshire Company, MA. From here he initially enlisted as a Sergeant in Capt. Samuel Clark’s Company, Col John Bram’s (Berkshire County) Regiment, MA Militia on 30 June 1777 and discharged on 26 July 1777. During the next alarm he was commissioned Lieutenant 7 Sept 1777 in Capt Pawlett’s Company at Headquarters with MG Lincoln. After two tours as a Lieutenant he received his commission as Captain on 8 Oct 1779 and served three more tours. He final discharged is dated 28 Oct 1780. He moved his family to South Harford NY in 1806 where he received a pension for his military service, Pension # S6952 Service Source. He died 28 Nov 1836 at 90 years of age in HARTFORD, WASHINGTON County, New York.

His will, dated 2 Nov. 1836 and proved 1 Sept. 1837, mentioned nine children and named George Chandler, Esq., and Lucretia, widow of his son Joseph Harris, as executors. He left the house, store and lot at North Hartford to Samuel Harris and Samuel N. Harris. All of his children were then reported to be deceased, except son Samuel and possibly son Israel
