Christopher Hammond served at various times between 1780 and 1783 as a Private, Sergeant, Horseman and Footman in the South Carolina 2nd Spartan Regiment. He most likely participated in the Battle of Kings Mountain. His commanding officers were Colonel Thomas Brandon, Captain Benjamin Jolly and Captain Joseph Hughes. Christopher Hammond was born in North Farnham, Richmond County, Virginia on 29 October 1749. He died in Princetown, Caldwell County, Kentucky on 4 April 1830. His parents were William H. Hammond (1718 - 1754) and Elizabeth Dare (1728 - 1778). Christopher married Mary McLoed (1750 - 1830) with whom he had eight children: Joshua, Ruth, Benjamin Christopher, John, Thomas, Martin, Betsey Elizabeth, and Rhoda. His brothers, Job Hammond (P-174112, P-174113) and Martin Hammond, also served in the 2nd Spartan Regiment.

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal.
