Author: Dr. Michael Bernard Gunn

He was born on May 16, 1760 or1757, in County Down, Ireland. He served as a Corporal having Enlisted Dec 12, 1776. He was a member of Capt Henderson's Company, 9th Pennsylvania Line, commanded by Colonel Richard Butler and was in Gen Anthony Wayne's command. He joined the Pennsylvania militia (Flying Camp) July 1st 1776 as a drummer boy and then joined the 9th Regiment of the Continental Army at Trenton, NJ about January 1, 1777.  As a member of the Light Infantry he participated in the battles of Fort Washington, Stony Point,NY; Brandywine, Germantown (where he was taken prisoner), Princeton, Paoli,  Monmouth, and Yorktown.  He was wounded twice (Brandywine and Monmouth) . Wintered at Valley Forge (1777-78).  Discharged at Carlisle, Pa 1781. In 1778 he was a Corp in same company. He Married 1) Susanna Kean on April 30, 1781; 4 children, Elizabeth, Joseph, Robert Jr. & ?. His 2nd Marriage to 2) Ann Hayes, Feb 23, 1792. Children: William Hays. He died on February 24, 1841 in Lebanon, OH and Buried at Methodist Cemetery (Old Lebanon Cemetery), Row 5, Grave 11, with an upright stone; Lebanon, Warren County, OH.
