Jesse Hamilton was born in Brookfield, Massachusetts, on 19 July 1754, the son of Ezra and Lydia (Barnes) Hamilton. This particular Hamilton line traces back to a John Hamilton, who was brought to the colonies as a British Prisoner of War from the Battle of Dunbar, which denotes an ironic twist of fate.
In the source documents listed below, it is a consistent record that Jesse Hamilton was a Private in the Company of Captain Asa Danforth and Regimental commander Colonel Leanietf. In addition, he and his company marched to join the command of General Gates at the Battle of Saratoga.
He married the former Sarah Stevens on 26 August 1781 in Brookfield, and they had five of their eight known children while there. Census records denote that they were still living in Brookfield in 1790. In 1791, the family moved to the Town of Oxford, Chenango County, New York, where they had three more children, and is recorded on census records for the area in 1800 and 1810. Sometime in 1793 or 1794, they moved to a farm a couple of miles south of the town, where he remained until his death.
Besides being chronicled in Revolutionary War history books from Massachusetts and New York, his name is listed on a Revolutionary War plaque in Oxford, New York.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
