Qualifying Service Description:
1777-1779, he served as an Adjutant under the command of Colonel Israel Shreve of the 2nd New Jersey Regiment
Early in 1779, he served as a Lieutenant in the company of Captain John Hollinshead, commanded by Colonel Shreve
1780-1783, alternating as an Adjutant with the rank of Lieutenant in the same company, which was at times led by Lieutenant-Colonel William DeHart. The Regiment was at first Colonel Shreve, later led by Colonel Elias Dayton and Lieutenant-Colonel John Cummings

A bronze tablet was placed on a large granite boulder listing some of the Revolutionary War soldiers buried at the Cemetery during the Bicentennial. Memorial is across road where Sections 113, 115 and 116 join to the North end of Woodland Preserve - 39.1672739, -84.5349940

Luther Halsey served as an Aide de Camp to Major-General LaFayette of the Continental Army, New Jersey Regiment.
Born on May 10, 1758, in Morristown, New Jersey. He was a student in Princeton when war broke out, when he and his whole class with Dr. Witherspoon, their president, entered the service, in which he remained until the war was over. He was a sergeant, Adjutant 1776, in the Morristown County, New Jersey Militia.
He received a land grant from the government for his services and was one of the original members of the Society of Cincinnati whose first was George Washington. Married Sarah Foster, Demans Foster & Abigail Foster. He lived in Newburgh, New York, before coming to Ohio in 1825 with his son-in-law.
He died on February 28, 1830, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was buried first in the 12 Street Presbyterian Cemetery, then reinterred on March 1, 1859, to Spring Grove Cemetery, Lot 49, Section 36, Grave B1; on family stone with Baker, No marker.

Revolutionary War Veteran. Born in New Jersey, he was the son of Jeremiah and Elizabeth Halsey. He left school at Princeton College in 1775 and enlisted with the 2nd New Jersey Regiment as a Sergeant in the Second Battalion. He was promoted to Lieutenant and Adjutant under Colonel Israel Shreve in 1777. Halsey later served as an aide-de-camp on the staff of General George Washington. He was discharged at the close of the war and was brevetted as Captain for his meritorious service. He lived in Newburgh, New York after the war and then moved west to Ohio to claim land that was granted to him for his service during the war. He settled in Cincinnati and died from consumption in 1830. He was buried at the Presbyterian Burial Grounds. The cemetery was closed for development and he was removed to Spring Grove Cemetery in 1859.
