Born in 1746 at Holland.  He was a Pennsylvania private in the 3rd Pennsylvania Regiment and endured the suffering of Valley Forge.  He married Abigail McNabb (1752-1839); children: John, Benjamin, Phoebe, William and Joseph.  He moved to Williams County in 1836.  He died in April 1840 at the age of 94 years and was buried at Rings Cemetery, West Unity, Williams County, Ohio 43570.   Cemetery Notes: The cemetery is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of N. James Hagerman was born November 1758, Hunterdon County, NJ, died April 1840, Williams County, Ohio, son of Aram Hagerman (Hegerman) and Phebe Swart. James, married Abigail McNabb, who was born 1759, Scotland, and died April 1839, Williams County, OH.

Aram Hagerman and family left NJ,. about 1775, and relocated to Pennsylvania, where James, enlisted 20 May 1777. He entered the Pennsylvania Line, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Regiment, Commanded by Colonel Thomas Craig; Captain Boyd’s Company of Light Infantry and remained there through the period of December 1777 through 1783. They were quartered at Valley Forge and endured the sufferings and privations of the winter of 1777-1778.
James’s Rev War Pension Application indicates that he participated in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth and Springfield.

Hagerman was honorably discharged sometime in 1783, although his name still appeared on Company Rolls until 1 September 1784.

James applied for a military pension on 7 April 1818, stating that he was an invalid that while in the service he had developed a disease in his thigh which had nearly destroyed the use of one of his legs. He also stated that he was residing in Cumberland Co. PA. at this time of the application. James and family eventually removed to Richland Co. Ohio and in 1836, with his son John J. and his family removed to Williams Co. Ohio.

In April 1839, Abigail (McNabb) Hagerman, passed away at the good old age of 87 years and in April 1840, James passed beyond the bourn at the remarkable age of 94 years and lie side by side in unmarked graves in the West Unity (Rings) Cemetery.
